Can I Get A Different Physical Therapist?

August 10, 2020 by Dr. Andy Masis, PT

A physical therapist is going to push you and make you feel uncomfortable, but this is all done in the name of expanding your flexibility and helping you achieve maximum medical improvement. So while we don’t recommend switching physical therapists because they are working you too hard, here’s a look at a couple of reasons why you may want to switch to OrthoRehab Specialists or another therapy team.

Unclear Goals

If you’re unclear about your goals, it’s tough to really evaluate your progress or work towards a meaningful benchmark. Our therapists always work with patients to help establish short-term and long-term goals. Whether that’s getting back in time for the soccer season or simply being able to walk a mile without pain, we will help establish and adjust goals as your therapy progresses.

Treatment is Mostly Passive

As we mentioned above, your therapist should be pushing you to your physical limits because that will help you the most. Active treatment options like exercise, stretches, targeted strength training and movement patterns will help your body the most. While painkillers, heat/ice therapy or massage therapy may feel good, it’s not as effective at treating the underlying problem as active options. If you’re finding that your therapist is relying too much on passive options, connect with another therapy team.
