Preventative Sports Medicine and Injury Prevention Screening

Most sports injuries do not come out of nowhere. They build from a muscle imbalance, a movement compensation, or a strength deficit that went unnoticed until the body was asked to do too much. Preventative sports medicine at OrthoRehab Specialists is about finding those weak links first. Our Edina and Minneapolis physical therapists use objective testing to measure how your body moves, then build a plan that corrects what the numbers reveal, so you can train and compete with less risk.

Who It Is For

Regardless of age or ability, we are all athletes. Injury prevention screening is for anyone who asks something of their body on a regular basis.

Competitive Athletes

Heading into a season, a tryout, or a training block, and wanting to start it without a weak link.

Weekend Warriors

Playing hard on Saturday and paying for it on Monday. Screening finds what keeps flaring up.

Runners, Cyclists, and Golfers

Repetitive motions magnify small asymmetries. Gait and swing analysis shows where the load is going.

Active Adults

Hiking, skiing, lifting, and playing without setbacks, year after year.

Returning to Sport

Coming back after an injury with proof you are ready, not just a feeling.

Teams and Programs

Pre-season screening for a group, with each athlete's results reviewed one-on-one.

How We Measure Your Injury Risk

Guesswork does not prevent injuries. Measurement does. Our screenings use the same tools we rely on for return-to-sport testing, so the results are objective, repeatable, and specific to you.

Functional Movement Screening

We assess squatting, lunging, hopping, and agility drills to detect compensations and asymmetries in how you move, including the landing and hop patterns linked to knee and ACL injuries.

Isokinetic Strength Testing

Using the HUMAC system, we measure force output and side-to-side strength differences that raise injury risk.

Interactive Balance Assessment

The HUMAC Interactive Balance force plate measures static and dynamic balance, coordination, and neuromuscular control with real-time visual feedback.

Video Gait and Swing Analysis

Video-based analysis of your running gait or golf swing pinpoints the mechanics that overload joints and tissue.

Executive Performance Profile

A comprehensive screen of five objectively measured tests that shows how your body integrates strength, stability, mobility, and coordination.

Motor Control Feedback

A tracking laser gives real-time visual feedback on motor control, so you can feel and correct faulty patterns as they happen.

What Happens After the Screening

Testing is only useful if it changes what you do next. Your therapist reviews the results with you and turns them into a plan.

A clear picture of your risk. Which imbalances, asymmetries, and movement patterns matter most for your sport.

A corrective program. Targeted strength, mobility, and stability work for the specific deficits found, with custom plans to work on between sessions.

Retesting. We measure again so progress is proven, not assumed, and adjust the program as you improve.

Performance coaching. For those who want to go further, one-on-one personal training with OrthoRehab therapists builds on the screening results.
