PRI
All human bodies are asymmetrical. We have a heart on the left, a liver on the right, a stomach on the left, the list goes on and on. Because of this asymmetry, the left and right sides of our body do not move in the same way. This asymmetry is completely normal, however we often develop habitual patterns that create dominance or overuse on one side of the body and disuse on the other. When this natural asymmetry becomes excessive, then our ability to move efficiently is compromised and is often accompanied by pain or other musculoskeletal complaints.
Postural Restoration techniques, taught by the Postural Restoration Institute (PRI), address not only the area of pain, but also the root cause of the dysfunction. The techniques help restore functional alignment with an appreciation for the body’s asymmetry and the importance and influence of breathing/respiration. The goal is to promote and re-establish optimal neuromuscular patterns for full function.
